I was born to Turkish parents, but born and raised in The Netherlands, I’ve lived my whole life in The Netherlands.
I have a Bsc. degree in aerospace engineering and a Msc. degree in history of science specializing in the history of Arabic-Islamic science.
I am currently a Phd Candidate at the Mathematics Institute of Utrecht University in the city of Utrecht, The Netherlands, specializing in the history of Arabic/Islamic Science. I am currently writing an intellectual biography of Taqi al-Din ibn Ma’ruf (d. 1585), the court astronomer of the Ottoman Sultan Murad III. Taqi al-Din is one of the most important Ottoman scientists and wrote works on many fields, such as: astronomy, mathematics, optics, physics, zoology and pharmacology. For my project, i will also do research on two “case studies”, of which one will be the astronomical observations made by Taqi al-Din.
